How to make the most of your wedding day accessories without overspending

A wedding dress is the most important item a bride will wear on her wedding day, but accessories can make the ensemble complete and the bride look like a million dollars. The only problem is when the price tag for those accessories seems to be about as high.

Still, there are plenty of ways you can look like a million bucks, without having to spend as much. Here are some tips you can follow to save money on accessories:

Don’t go over the top

Veils, garters, purses, shoes, hairpieces and wraps are some of the many accessories from which brides can choose. The most important thing to keep in mind, however, is that simple saves money. Don’t feel you need to purchase every accessory you can find. You want to enhance your dress, not take away from it.

“Look at the nature of the garment and discover how you can add to it to make it look even better,” says Lynn Harlow owner of Promises and Lace Bridal and Dress Boutique in Burlington, Ont.

Make your own

If you’re a crafty person, this is where you can save lots of money and your creativity will shine.

Purchase some tulle or a plain wedding veil. By adding pearls, sequins, or crystals yourself you can glam it up.  This will not only cut the cost but add some personal touches as well. You have the ability to customize your veil exactly the way you want it.

Borrow

Chances are someone you know has already been married. They’ve got everything you need. If you don’t mind borrowing, you can save lots of money. You’ll probably only ever wear these accessories once, so don’t bother spending ridiculous amounts of money on them.

Bargain hunt

Sometimes finding the right accessories takes patience and determination. Don’t settle for a pair of shoes you find in the first store you go into. Take your time finding just the right piece at the price you like. “Be willing to look for the right piece,” says Harlow.

Shop at blowout sales, antique shows or even online on sites like eBay. It’s important to consider all your options and hunt for the prices you can afford.

Wearing bridal accessories can be the icing on the cake. They are the finishing touches that can help make a bride glow with confidence on her wedding day.
